Budding Thought
Our personality seems to be formed more or less by our personal history, every day bringing new joys and trials that add to the texture of what we call “us.” If we believe this claim, we have many reasons and excuses for why we are the way we are.

Night Seen
In the evening I like to take walks along the Missouri River in Frontier Park, which is a block away from my studio. Because it's a city park there are occasional street lights that shine through the foliage. This painting reminds me of that backlit canopy that plays with the iris in the eye . . . the stark contrast of evening ambient and mechanical brightness converging on the rhythm of nature.

Persistent Spring
The clear white crystalline form on the left reflects the blossoming tree as if to encourage it. On the opposite side is a dark crystalline form dimly reflecting shadows of the tree as if to discourage, disappoint. Living in a place where everything radiates light there should be no shadows. Therefore the shadow is illegitimate.
